Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Rehab)
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Unit: Acute Rehab Hospital
- Patient Diagnoses: Stroke, Brain injury, Spinal cord injuries
- Special Equipment: Hoyer Lift, Sit to stand lift
- Skills Required: Acute Rehab, CVA (Cerebrovascular Accident)
- Electronic Health Record: EPIC preferred
- Float Required: Yes, float to MS (Medical-Surgical)
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:5
- Nights: 1:12
- Block Scheduling: Will try to accommodate but not guaranteed
- Locals Accepted: No (local radius rule: 75 miles)
- Pending License Accepted: No
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 1 week RTO allowed in a contract
- Unit Accepts 1st Time Travelers: Yes
Experience Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 1 year in specialty (Registered Nurse)
- Prior Travel Experience Required: No
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI acceptable, as required by unit
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - as required by unit
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - as required by unit
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as required by unit
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as required by unit
- NIH Stroke Certification - required for all RNs except birthing units & OR; to be updated annually
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- State License Verification (Primary Source) within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification (RN) within 30 days of start
- Tech Cert Verification (if applicable) within 30 days of start
Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (as required)
- Color Blind Testing (required once)
- Competency Exam (as required by profession/specialty)
Health & Compliance Requirements
Candidates must complete the following health-related requirements and lab work within 5 days of signing their contract:
- Physical Exam (within 1 year, updated annually)
- Fit Mask (N95) testing within 1 year, with acceptable alternatives if failed
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray (within 1 year)
- TB Questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Drug Testing (within 30 days of start)
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or signed declination (during flu season)
- Eye Exam (Snellen, within 1 year)
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background & Documentation
- Government Issued Photo ID required
- 7 Year Criminal Background Check within 3 months of start (including felony checks)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start, run monthly
- Foreign Equivalency Education Evaluation if applicable
- Transcript/Diploma if no education verification on file
- Education Verification from primary or 3rd party source (no hard copies accepted)
- References: 2 references within 3 years (required for Aya candidates only)
- Employment Application required
- Skills Checklist (annual)
- Work History Verification: at least 2 past employments verified
State Specific Requirements (New York)
- NYS Nurse Aide Registry (if applicable) within 3 months of start
- NYS Criminal Background Check Fingerprint Results (for certain units)
- Disciplinary Action Search Results (for certain units)
- Sex Offender Registry Search (within 30 days of start)
- NY Medicaid Exclusion List check within 3 months of start, run monthly
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience in acute rehab settings, comfortable with float assignments, and able to meet comprehensive certification, health, and background requirements. First-time travelers are welcome.
