Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – Adult ICU Pods
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Specialty: Adult ICU Pods (SICU/MICU/Trauma ICU)
Contract Details
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum contract length)
- Shift: 12-hour shifts (7 AM – 7 PM)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling with schedulers having the right to rebalance the schedule
- Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks
- Holiday Requirement: Work with core staff rotation
- Orientation: 2 shifts on the floor
- Dress Code: Navy scrubs
- Floating: ICU travelers required to float among all ICU areas and MedSurg/Telemetry units; may also float to a secondary campus
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience required
- Facility Experience: Must have experience in a 600+ bed teaching hospital
- Trauma Experience: Level 1 Trauma experience required
- Prior Travel Experience: Previous travel experience required for ED and Neuro ICU (not explicitly required for this ICU role)
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS required
- EMR: Cerner experience required
- Additional Exams:
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
- Day 1 Pass/Fail SIMs Lab (Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes) – competency in sterile field maintenance expected
- Other Requirements:
- No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed
- Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Must pass a day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation
Unit & Patient Population Details
Unit Composition
- 3 ICU pods: SICU, MICU, Trauma ICU
- 40 beds per unit, 120 beds total
- Level 1 Trauma and teaching hospital environment
- Intensivist coverage 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- Ventilator equipment includes Cervo I, Jets, Oscillators
- RNs required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips
Common Diagnoses & Procedures
MICU:
- Sepsis, GI Bleed, DKA, RotaProne Therapy, Heat Stroke, Overdose (most intubated)
- Bedside procedures: Bronchoscopy, Tracheostomy care, Hemodialysis catheter placements
SICU:
- Post-op vented patients, lung transplants, liver and kidney transplants, severe back surgeries, Whipple procedures
- Bedside procedures: Bronchoscopy, Tracheostomy care, Hemodialysis catheter placements
Trauma ICU (TICU):
- Trauma patients including MVAs, gunshot wounds, closed head injuries, orthopedic trauma
- Night shifts: 12 hours
- Weekend shifts: 4 per 4 weeks
- Holidays based on unit coverage
Additional Notes
- Candidates cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously within this system
- Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team
- Facility enforces strict grooming and appearance policies
- Nursing students may be present as this is a teaching hospital
- Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for licensure verification
- Must be off permanent staff at this hospital system for 12 months before being eligible for travel assignments here
This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with trauma and teaching hospital backgrounds who meet the certification and exam requirements and are comfortable working in a high-acuity, multi-unit ICU environment.
