Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - Neurosurgery
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Specialty

- Level 1 Trauma and Teaching hospital experience required
- Prior travel experience required for ED and Neuro ICU

- Unit size: 11 suites
- Hospital size: 607 beds
- Trauma Level: Level 1 Trauma Center
- Teaching hospital with nursing students
- Associated with a nationally recognized neuro institute
- EMR systems: Cerner and Suginet
Certifications & Exams
- Required: BLS Certification
- Preferred: ACLS, CNOR, Circulate and Scrub certifications, AORN membership
- Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts) for ICU, ER, Cath Lab, and related units
- Day 1 Pass/Fail Exam required
- SIMs Lab completion required (Foley catheter insertion & central line dressing changes) with pass/fail criteria
- Competency in sterile field maintenance is mandatory
Work Schedule & Shifts
- Shifts: 7am-3pm, 7am-5pm, 7am-11pm, 3pm-7pm, 11pm-7am
- Operating hours: 7am-11pm Monday-Friday
- Call: 1 call day and 1 call weekend per month
- Weekend requirement: Call only
- Holidays: Included in rotation
- Typical schedule: 4 days a week, 10-hour shifts (6:30am-5:00pm), no weekends or call needed for some assignments
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Candidates cannot hold multiple contracts simultaneously within the system
- Must have been off permanent staff at the system for 12 months to qualify for travel assignment
- No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed
- Travel teams must have their own vehicles
- Parking provided with shuttle service or garage for night shifts
- Floating may be required if general surgery background
- Common patient diagnoses: craniotomies, tumors, carotids, spine fusion, scoliosis, shunts, brain biopsies, deep brain stimulation, tumor ablation
- Nurse aides: 70% RNs, 30% CSTs
- Pharmacy and respiratory therapy available 24/7
Summary
This is a travel RN position in Neurosurgery requiring at least 2 years of specialty experience, prior travel experience for Neuro ICU or ED, and multiple certifications including BLS and Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam. The role is based in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital with a strong focus on sterile technique and competency in specific nursing skills. The contract is a minimum of 13 weeks with a structured orientation and specific scheduling requirements.
