Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist
Location: Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) to provide high-quality respiratory care in an acute care setting. The role involves assessing patients, performing respiratory procedures, responding to emergencies, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Licensure
- Graduate of an AMA or CoARC approved Respiratory Therapist program (Registry eligible)
- Valid Ohio Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license
- Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) with commitment to obtain RRT within 120 days of employment
- NBRC-RRT certification required
Experience
- Minimum 3 years prior work history including at least 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting in a similar specialty area
Certifications & Competencies
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or equivalent)
- Fit Test for N95 masks (3M 1870+ N95, Medline Cone Small, 3M 1860 Reg & Small) within one year of start, updated annually
- Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists completed and updated annually
- Completion of core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics within 90 days of start, updated annually
Health & Safety
- Pre-employment physical within one year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- COVID-19 vaccination (medical/religious exemptions case-by-case)
- MMR (titer or 2 adult vaccines, no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B (titer or proof of vaccination series, signed declinations accepted)
- Influenza vaccine (required October-April, medical/religious exemptions only)
- Varicella (titer or 2 adult vaccines, no declinations accepted)
- Tdap within 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- 2-step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) testing with specific timing requirements, no declinations accepted
- Annual TB questionnaire and chest x-ray if positive PPD
Background & Screening
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
- Comprehensive criminal background check including FCRA compliant 7-year search, SSN trace, and nationwide checks
- OIG exclusion check within 90 days of start
- EPLS (SAM.gov) exclusion check within 90 days of start
Additional Requirements
- Education verification and professional license verification required
- Social Security Card required
- Must provide 3 years of prior work history including at least 2 years clinical acute care experience
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
Essential Job Functions
- Confirm and assess physician orders for respiratory care, monitor patient response, and communicate any concerns to the healthcare team
- Perform respiratory and pulmonary procedures according to protocols
- Respond to emergencies including cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Set up and maintain respiratory equipment, administer medical gases and medications
- Participate in patient care teams, quality improvement programs, and educational activities
- Maintain proficiency through ongoing education, in-services, and meetings
