Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist

Location: Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 12 weeks

Required Years of Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years prior work history, including at least 2 years of clinical practice in an acute care setting and in a similar area to the pending assignment.

Education & Licensure Requirements

  • Graduate of an AMA or CoARC approved Respiratory Therapist program (Registry eligible).
  • Valid Ohio Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license granted by the State Medical Board of Ohio.
  • Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) and obtain RRT within 120 days of employment start date.

Certifications & Compliance

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or AHA RQI accepted).
  • Fit Test for approved N95 masks (3M 1870+, Medline Cone Small, 3M 1860 Reg & Small).
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly encouraged (medical or religious exemptions considered case-by-case).
  • MMR, Hepatitis B, Influenza, Varicella immunizations or titers required (no declinations accepted except for Influenza vaccine with approved exemptions).
  • 2-Step PPD or IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) testing required.
  • Tdap vaccination within 10 years.
  • Annual TB Questionnaire and, if applicable, Chest X-ray for positive PPD.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually.
  • Criminal background check, OIG search, and EPLS screening within 90 days of start.
  • Education verification and Social Security Card required.

Job Responsibilities

  • Confirm physician orders, assess appropriateness, and ensure quality patient care.
  • Notify healthcare team of any unusual patient reactions during treatment.
  • Assess, evaluate, document, and monitor patient response to therapy.
  • Explain treatment procedures and address patient concerns.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Perform respiratory/pulmonary procedures per protocol.
  • Respond to emergencies and participate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Set up and maintain respiratory equipment, administer medical gases and medications.
  • Assist with stocking supplies and complete billing documentation.
  • Participate in patient care teams and quality improvement programs.
  • Provide education to patients, families, students, and healthcare professionals.
  • Attend in-services, meetings, and conferences to maintain proficiency and stay current with new techniques and equipment.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to effectively interact with diverse patient populations with respect and dignity.
  • Pre-employment physical exam confirming ability to perform essential job functions safely.
  • Completion of unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists annually.
  • Compliance with HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
