Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Emergency Room (Adult)
Location: Rochester, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Position Overview
- Role: Registered Nurse in Adult Emergency Room
- Shift Hours: 7 PM to 7 AM
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Must be available to work every other holiday, if needed
- Floating: Required to float within skillset
- Locals: RNs within 75 miles are not accepted (locals accepted for LPNs)
- Accepts first-time travelers
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Active New York Single State RN license (NY is not Compact)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider/Instructor/RQI accepted
- NIH Stroke Certification (to be updated annually)
- PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM certifications as required by unit
- State License Verification and NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
Required Clinical Skills
- IV therapy including blood product administration, central line care, phlebotomy, starting/maintaining IVs, IV vasopressors
- CPAP/BiPAP and ventilator management
- Care for CVA (stroke), neuro-trauma, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury (TBI)
- Cardiac monitoring and management of dysrhythmias
- Emergency care including adult/pediatric ED, gunshot wounds, orthopedic trauma
- Isolation precautions, triage, pediatric spinal cord injury
Unit Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
- Patient population: Adults and geriatrics with all emergency diagnoses
- Special equipment: Bair hugger, rapid infuser, safe patient handling equipment
- Scrub color: Navy blue and white combinations
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Emergency Room)
- Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1 year typical for ER travel RN roles
- Prior travel experience: Not required (accepts first-time travelers)
Charting System
- EPIC experience required
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required
- 7-year criminal background check within 3 months of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
- Education verification from primary source required
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained internationally
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (includes amphetamines, cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, opiates, etc.)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
- COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required

- References: 2 references within 3 years (required for Aya candidates)

- Skills checklist required annually
- State-specific documents including NYS Nurse Aide Registry and criminal background checks as applicable
Summary
This is an 8-week travel contract for an experienced Registered Nurse in the Adult Emergency Room in Rochester, NY. The position requires strong clinical skills in emergency care, critical care interventions, and familiarity with EPIC charting. Candidates must hold an active NY RN license and required certifications including BLS and ACLS. Prior travel experience is not required, making this role suitable for first-time travel nurses.
