Position Details

• Patient Ratio: 1:5 to 1:7 (MedSurg)
• Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Licensure & Certifications

• License: Must have New York RN license in hand (no exceptions)
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider/instructor/RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) as required by unit
  • PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
• Charting System: Must have EPIC experience

Unit Description

• Unit Type: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) - critical care step-down unit
• Beds: 26 beds
• Patient Population: Adult acute care patients requiring specialized care beyond general MedSurg
• Care Provided:

  • Continuous pulse-oximetry and telemetry monitoring
  • Airway management and acute BIPAP support
  • Management of arterial lines, central lines, and titrated medicated IV infusions
• Environment: Fast-paced, multidisciplinary team providing evidence-based, compassionate care

Skills & Clinical Competencies

• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Use of Rapid Response/Code teams
• IV therapy and phlebotomy including peripheral line care/management
• Respiratory care including nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and non-invasive airway management
• Knowledge of isolation precautions

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit mask test within 1 year, updated annually
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• Drug screening within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season
• Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year
• COVID vaccination copy preferred but not required
• State-specific requirements including NYS Nurse Aide Registry and criminal background checks as applicable

Additional Requirements

• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as required
• Skills checklist annually
• Work history verification (minimum 2 past employments)
• Photo for badge (passport-style with solid background)

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of MedSurg experience, comfortable working night shifts in a critical care step-down environment, and who holds a current New York RN license. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome.
