Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg/Telemetry (Days)
Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Initial training on 3E unit (med surg post-op surgical care), then transition to 5E unit starting March 10th
- Patient types: All types of med surg care
- Patient ratios: 4-5 patients per nurse
- Unit bed size: 15 beds
- Drips: Heparin administration required
- Telemetry monitoring: Remote tech unit monitoring
- Scrubs: Navy blue, solids
- Must be adaptable and willing to float across multiple campuses within the system
- May assume charge nurse role and precept new team members as needed
- Culture emphasizes teamwork, flexibility, and positive attitude
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 24 months of Med Surg / Med Surg Tele experience (highest required years of experience)
- Proficiency caring for a variety of med surg patient types
- Experience with Heparin administration (required)
- Telemetry/cardiac skills highly preferred
- EPIC EMR experience required
- Must have completed at least 1 prior travel contract within the last 18 months (prior travel experience required)
- First-time travelers accepted only if they meet the above travel contract requirement
Licensure & Certifications
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission
- Current AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Valid driver’s license required
Other
- Must be open and willing to extend beyond the initial 13-week assignment
- Orientation dates are firm (starting March 2)
- Work history and skills checklist specific to med surg/med surg tele discipline required
- Professional references preferred (from charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, or similar within last 24 months)
Work Schedule & Conditions
- 36-40 hours per week, with overtime billable after 40 hours
- May include holiday and on-call shifts with applicable pay multipliers
- Charge/precept pay available as applicable
This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg/Telemetry RNs who are adaptable, team-oriented, and have prior travel nursing experience.
