Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Lynchburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

Shift: 3x12 or 4x12 hour night shifts (19:00 - 07:00)
Work radius: 60 miles
Specialty: Medical Surgical (MS)
Required Experience: Minimum 2 years Medical Surgical experience (teaching hospital experience preferred)
Prior Travel Experience: Not accepting first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
Orientation: Biweekly orientation on Mondays
Licensure: Candidates with pending certifications will be considered
Dress Code: Any color scrubs, professional appearance, child-friendly print tops allowed, scrub/lab coat allowed
Facility is a nicotine-free campus

Required Certifications

BLS (Basic Life Support) – Required
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

Candidate profile including work history
Specialty-specific skills checklist
Minimum 2 manager/charge references within the past 2 years
RN license verification (NURSYS verification within 2 days of submission)
Copies of all required certifications

Additional Requirements

Background checks including SS trace, county searches (last 7 years), nationwide, sex offender, FACIS Level 3 (updated annually)
EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks prior to start
Education verification (MSW or BSW diploma for social workers, if applicable)
Physical exam within 6 months of start
Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
Annual TB questionnaire if applicable
Immunizations: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (vaccines or positive titers required; exemptions apply for candidates born before 1957)
Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start (instant drug screen permitted; marijuana not required)
Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (medical and religious exemptions accepted with mask requirement)

Competencies & Testing

Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
Color blind testing (Ishihara)
Competency exam as applicable to specialty/profession

Notes

Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training available onsite monthly; travelers must sign up for first available class after assignment starts
Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift travel assignment in Virginia.
