Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room (OR) (Days)

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work 36-40 hours per week; overtime billable after 40 hours
• Patient ratio: 1:1
• Unit size: 16 beds
• Average caseload: 35-50 cases per day with turnovers expected in less than 20 minutes
• Use of specialized equipment including 3 DaVinci robots, Stealth technology for Neuro navigation, and Synthes or Stryker for ortho trauma
• 16 operating rooms, routinely running 12-14 rooms
• Level 1 trauma center with reserved space for trauma cases
• Service lines include Cardiac/PV, Neuro, Ortho (primarily trauma), Robotics, Gynecology, Urology, General Surgery, Pediatrics, and Transplants; small volume of ENT and Plastic procedures
• Preferred to scrub or circulate (both preferred)
• Weekend on-call from end of shift Friday until 6:30 AM Monday
• Floating required across multiple campuses

Requirements

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years current Operating Room experience (required)
  • Circulating and OR experience (required)
  • Scrub experience preferred, including open heart scrubbing (highly preferred)
  • Strong proficiency in Cardiac, Vascular, Thoracic, and General Surgery (required)
  • Additional experience highly preferred in DaVinci robotics, Pediatrics, Trauma, Neurology, Orthopedics (primarily trauma), Gynecology, Urology, Transplants, Plastics, ENT, and Vascular
  • Trauma Level I experience highly preferred
• Licenses & Certifications:

  • Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license (required)
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) BLS certification (required)
• Systems Experience:

  • EPIC electronic medical record experience within the last 3 years (required)
• Travel Experience:

  • No first-time travelers; must have completed a travel assignment within the past 12 months (prior travel experience required)
• Other:

  • Must provide work history/resume showing 24 months of current OR experience
  • Skills checklist specific to Operating Room Nurse discipline (scrub/circulate) required
  • Professional references from within the last 24 months preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required
