Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: San Francisco, California
Contract Length: 22 weeks (interpreted from 22 weeks)
Shift: 12-hour Day/Night Variable shifts
Facility: UCSF Health Medical Center (Ability to float to other UCSF facilities required)


Job Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years in specialty (highest required)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (accepts first-time travelers)
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • California RN License
    • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • AHA PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • CCRN certification preferred (not required)
  • Required Skills:
    • Conscious Sedation
    • Intracranial Pressure (ICP) monitoring
    • Telemetry
    • Ventilator management
    • Central Line Care
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Level 1 Trauma Experience
    • Post Bone Marrow Transplant care

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified (required for ICU and Telemetry)
  • BLS - AHA certified (required for all clinical positions)
  • PALS - AHA certified (required for pediatric units)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required for L&D, ICN, Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool, Pediatric Transport
  • CHEMO certification - required for Oncology and Pediatric Oncology (if applicable)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - may be required for ER/ED
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - required for L&D (not applicable for PICU)
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry Test - required for all RNs working in telemetry and critical care areas
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam - passing score of 80% or higher required within 1 year of start
  • Unit Specific Competency Exam - passing score of 80% or higher required within 12 months of start
  • Core Parts I, II, III Clinical Training - passing score of 80% or higher, completed within 1 year prior to start and updated annually

Background & Documentation Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including specific Bay Area counties and nationwide checks
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC), within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB tests (2 required: one within 1 year, one within 3 months of start) or chest X-ray if positive
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella - IGG titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Hepatitis B - titer, series, or declination (declination must be signed within 1 year)
    • Varicella - IGG titer or 2 vaccines required (history of disease not accepted)
  • COVID-19 vaccination requirements:
    • COVID19 Vaccine Booster 2 required for all travelers
    • Seasonal COVID vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required
  • Flu vaccine or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov-April)

Additional Requirements

  • Two supervisory references required from most recent or second most recent employment
  • Current and updated resume including last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
  • Completion of UCSF Learning Center modules prior to or within the first week of assignment
  • Completion of UCSF facility-specific documents including COVID-19 preparedness, parking/uniform info, HIPAA agreements, and cybersecurity training
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry exam on first day of orientation (3 attempts allowed)
  • Ability to float to other UCSF facilities as needed

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted.
  • CCRN certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • This is a travel/contract position with a 22-week assignment.
  • Variable 12-hour shifts (day and night) are expected.
