Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) – GI-IR Hybrid

Location: Folsom, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

This is a unique hybrid position combining Gastrointestinal (GI) and Interventional Radiology (IR) nursing. The role involves covering IR/procedural sedation in the mornings and GI cases in the afternoons.

Schedule

• Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
• Call coverage:

  • GI coverage Monday to Friday, 4:00 PM – 8:00 AM
  • Weekend call Saturday-Sunday, 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM (approx. 25 hours total)

Work Environment

• 2 suites with 1 team of 3 people daily
• 2 staff rotate between IR and GI; 1 staff strictly IR
• Small department with supportive physicians

Caseload

• GI:

  • Monday-Thursday: ~3 cases/day
  • Friday: 7-8 cases
  • Common procedures: EGDs, colonoscopies, ERCPs, occasional stents and banding for bleeds
• IR:

  • 6-7 cases/day if strictly IR
  • If hybrid role, ~3 IR cases/day
  • Common procedures: dialysis catheters (tunneled), paracentesis, thoracentesis, liver biopsies (basic, non-vascular)

Job Duties

• GI: Primarily circulator; tech role preferred but not required
• IR: Circulating and procedural sedation
• No pre-op or recovery responsibilities for either specialty

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)
• NIHSS
• Procedural Sedation Certification (to be obtained during orientation)

Required Experience

• Minimum 1 year nursing experience
• If IR-focused only: 1 year experience in IR, ICU, or ER required
• Strong preference for candidates with GI tech skills or experience
• Candidates with strong IR experience but no GI experience will also be considered

Additional Requirements

• Must pass a Dys Exam within 24-48 hours of acceptance (pass/fail with two attempts allowed)
• 2 supervisory references required (1 within 12 months, 1 within 3 years)
• May float to a sister hospital
• Orientation: approximately 5 days including unit familiarization and charting system training
• Charge nurse oversees both GI and IR units and does not take patient assignments
• RNs perform GI tech duties; no dedicated GI techs
• IR techs scrub cases
• Will take 1 holiday off during contract if applicable
• Dress code/scrub color provided
