Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT Pediatrics)
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work day/evening shifts (8 or 12 hours): 0700-1930, 1500-2300, 0700-1530
- Every other weekend, holidays, and 1 on-call shift every 6 weeks
- Provide respiratory care including aerosolized medication, volume expansion, airway clearance, tracheostomy care, and sputum inductions
- Manage non-invasive ventilation, high flow, and mechanical ventilation in IMC and ICU settings
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and evaluate patient care plans
- Floating required: may work in multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs
Required Qualifications
Licensure & Certification
- Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in Wisconsin
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care
- BLS certification (American Heart Association)
- PALS and NRP certifications (American Heart Association)
Experience
- Minimum 2 years as a staff respiratory therapist
- Pediatric and adult patient care experience required
- Experience in an Academic Level 1 Trauma Center or similar size hospital required
- Prior travel experience highly preferred (not strictly required)
Education
- Graduate of a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accredited school
Facility & Work Environment
- Level 1 Trauma Center with pediatric specialty care including Level One Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV NICU
- Magnet®-designated facility
- Must live within 50 miles of the primary work site
- Parking permit required if parking onsite; alternative transportation options available
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including criminal, caregiver screening, and education verification
- State license primary source verification
- Required certifications must be current and issued by the American Heart Association
- Facility-specific competency exams and telemetry tests may be required
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Tdap vaccination (one adult dose required)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray per facility guidelines
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or titers, with medical/religious exemptions considered
- Varicella vaccination or titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or declination form
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
- Drug screening per facility and agency standards
- Physical exam (per agency standard)
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams as applicable
Additional Notes
- Floating to other units may be required based on staffing needs
- Prior travel experience is highly preferred but not mandatory
- Strict adherence to facility-specific testing and documentation deadlines is required
