Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float - Registered Nurse

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Critical Care Float)
  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
  • Minimum Experience Required: 1 year (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Work Setting & Responsibilities

  • Float primarily in ICU, but may also float to Medical-Surgical (MS), MS Telemetry, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Neuro ICU, and Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) units.
  • Patient Ratios:
    • ICU: 1:2-3
    • PCU: 1:4-5
    • MS/MS Tele: 1:5-6
  • Unit Systems: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
  • Scrub Color: Navy Blue
  • Floating: Required
  • Call: None
  • Weekends: Every other weekend (approx. 6 weekends in a 13-week contract)
  • Holidays: Expected to work major holidays during assignment (see below)
  • Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days per contract

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (if required by unit)

Orientation & Compliance

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule.
  • Number of Non-Billable Orientation (NBO) hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).

  • New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day

Required Documents & Health Requirements

  • Licenses & Verifications:
    • State RN License verification (Georgia) within 30 days prior to start
    • Education verification (degree verification or transcripts)
    • Annual NURSYS verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Background Checks:
    • Comprehensive background check within 30 days prior to start
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
    • TB Questionnaire (updated annually)
    • Immunizations:
      • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
      • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
      • Hepatitis B series or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or declination (required for flu season)
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required by agency)
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ICU, Tele, PCU, ER, etc.)
    • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)

Additional Notes

  • Floating primarily in ICU with potential to float to other units within the hospital.
  • No call requirements.
  • Locals accepted at the same rate.
  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start.

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience who is comfortable working in critical care settings and floating across multiple units, with required certifications and compliance with health and background requirements.
