Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Burlington, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Schedule: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Call: No call required
  • Float: Float required as needed
  • Charge RN: Charge RN shifts required as needed

Unit Description

  • 29-bed unit caring for adults through geriatrics
  • Patient population includes orthopedic and medical surgical patients
  • Telemetry monitoring available
  • Physical therapy gym on unit for patient rehab
  • High volume: total joint replacements, fracture repairs, kyphoplasties
  • Moderate volume: other surgical procedures, inpatient and 24-hour observation medical patients

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience (highest required)
  • Previous travel experience required
  • Charge RN experience required
  • Current BLS certification
  • Pass/Fail EKG exam required for all RNs
  • Education: Associate's degree in nursing or higher
  • Valid North Carolina RN license with primary source verification (NURSYS verification required within 60 days of start)
  • Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/school for past 7 years
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
  • Immunizations and health requirements including:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 6 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
  • Physical exam (if applicable)
  • Pass/Fail testing for EKG and medication competency (minimum passing scores apply)
  • Two supervisory references required (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
  • Employment application/resume with 7-year work history
  • Verification of all employment within last 5 years

Certifications (as applicable)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
  • Other certifications may be preferred or required based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) — verify with unit specifics

Additional Requirements

  • Flexibility with scheduling and adherence to zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation and safety acknowledgements
  • Compliance with facility photo requirements for badge
  • Completion of health history and immunization documentation prior to clearance
  • Ability to float to other units as needed

Summary

This is a travel Registered Nurse position on a medical surgical unit with night shifts and every other weekend work. Candidates must have at least 2 years of RN experience, prior travel experience, and charge nurse experience. The role requires flexibility, adherence to strict attendance policies, and completion of multiple compliance and health requirements. The unit cares for a diverse adult and geriatric patient population with orthopedic and medical surgical needs, including telemetry monitoring and physical therapy support on the unit.
