Job Description
- Position: MS/Tele RN (Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Unit)
- Start Dates: March 9 and March 23 (March 9 starts prioritized)
- Schedule: No blocked schedule requests allowed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Ratios: 1:4
- Scrubs Color: Royal Blue
- Orientation: Bi-weekly sessions
- Flu Vaccination: Required, no exemptions or declinations accepted
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in MS/Telemetry
- Also accepting RNs with Emergency Department (ED) or Clinical Evaluation Unit backgrounds
- EPIC charting experience required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) preferred; training provided onsite if not currently held
Licensure
- Must hold a current North Carolina RN license or a Compact RN license
Work Environment & Additional Details
- Local candidates within 75 miles considered at a reduced rate
- First-time travelers are welcome
- Local candidates are also eligible
- Flu vaccines are mandatory with no exemptions allowed
Required Qualifications & Compliance
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, and international searches if applicable
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap every 10 years
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titer (no exemptions)
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination for the 2025-26 season (no exemptions)
- Polio vaccine or signed attestation
- Two professional references required from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
- Employment application and skills checklist must be current and complete
- Competency exams and unit-specific training required during orientation
- Must set up a Duke Guest Account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems
Summary
This is a travel contract RN position on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit requiring at least 2 years of recent relevant experience, EPIC charting skills, and current NC or Compact RN licensure. The role includes weekend work every other week, a 1:4 patient ratio, and mandatory flu vaccination. Orientation is bi-weekly, and CPI training is provided onsite if needed.
