Job Opportunity: Critical Care Float - Registered Nurse
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
- Float primarily in ICU with potential floating to Med-Surg (MS), MS Telemetry, Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Neuro ICU, and Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) units.
- Patient population: Adults to Geriatrics.
- Shift options: 36 or 48 hours guaranteed.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- ICU: 1:2-3
- PCU: 1:4-5
- MS/MS Tele: 1:5-6
- Electronic Health Record system: Epic (required).
- Other systems: Pyxis, SBAR.
- Scrub color: Navy Blue.
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days per contract.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (approx. 6 weekends in a 13-week contract).
- Floating: Required.
- Call: None.
- Holiday work expectations:
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it.
- If 2 major holidays, expected to work both.
- If 3 major holidays, expected to work 2.
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day.
- Compliance with orientation and credentialing required to start on time; delays may push start date by 2 weeks.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of specialty experience in critical care. First-time travelers accepted.
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification (if required by unit)
- Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) for certain specialties (e.g., ER, PACU)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) if applicable
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) course within a few months of hire (if applicable)
- Competencies:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required by agency)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for Telemetry, ICU, PCU, ER, and related units)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
- Background Checks: Must be completed and cleared prior to start, including education verification.
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months. TB questionnaire updated annually.
- Immunizations: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B series or declination.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required.
- References: Two clinical references required.
- Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof of processing.
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated within 12 months.

- Floating primarily to ICU but may cover multiple units within the hospital.
- Must comply with dress and professional appearance policies.
- Must review and sign Code of Conduct prior to start.
- Orientation hours vary based on contract length.
