Job Opportunity: MS/Tele Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
  • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
• Support Staff: Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) perform vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living
• Phlebotomy: In-house team handles peripheral lab draws; nursing responsible for PICC and central lines
• Floating: Required to float within scope to MS, ICU, and ED units
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• Block Scheduling: Attempted but not guaranteed
• Locals: Not accepted within 75 miles
• On-call: Not required
• No pending licenses accepted
• No holiday requests off allowed; max 7 days off total

Patient Population & Equipment

• Patient Diagnoses: Cardiac and stroke patients
• Special Skills/Requirements:

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • Oxygen delivery (nasal cannula, face masks, portable tanks)
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions
• Special Equipment: Hoyer lifts
• Electronic Health Record: Epic (preferred)
• Scrub Color: Any combination of navy and white
• Charting System: Epic

Required Qualifications

• Discipline: Registered Nurse (RN)
• Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year in specialty
• First-time travelers accepted
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification as required by unit
• Licensure: Valid RN license for New York (Primary Source Verification required within 30 days of start)
• Background Checks:

  • 7-year criminal background check (including felony) within 3 months of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 3 months of start and monthly thereafter
• Education Verification: Required from primary source; foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
• Competencies: Medication/pharmacology exam, color blindness test, and other competency exams as required
• Facility Specific: Orientation safety manual acknowledgment, photo for badge, and completion of facility modules

Health & Compliance Requirements

• Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit Mask: Required within 1 year, with acceptable mask types specified
• TB Testing: Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire accepted in lieu of annual renewal
• Immunizations/Vaccinations:

  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination required; age exemptions apply
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, completed series, or declination required
  • Varicella: Positive titer, vaccination, or documented history required
  • Flu Vaccine or signed declination required during flu season
• Drug Testing: Required within 30 days of start (not annual)
• Eye Exam: Snellen exam within 1 year of start (not annual)
• COVID Vaccination: Preferred but not required

• Prior travel experience is not required for this position
• References: Two references within 3 years required for Aya candidates only
• Locals within 75 miles are not accepted for this travel assignment

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of MS/Telemetry experience who are comfortable floating to ICU and ED units and managing cardiac/stroke patients with telemetry monitoring. The role requires flexibility with scheduling and adherence to strict health and compliance documentation.
