Job Description

• Work setting: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
• Responsibilities include:

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Peripheral line care/management, including PICC and central lines
  • Oxygen delivery via nasal cannula, face masks, portable oxygen tanks
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Isolation precautions
• Patient diagnoses commonly encountered: cardiac disease, stroke, infection, pain, pulmonary embolism (PE)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day/Evening: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
  • Night: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
• Support staff: Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) perform vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living
• In-house phlebotomy team handles peripheral lab draws
• Special equipment used: bladder scanners, telemetry monitors, EKG machines, Lifepacks
• Float requirements: MS, Emergency Department, ICU (stable patients), acute brain injury (stable patients)
• Scheduling: Every other weekend required; block scheduling may be accommodated but not guaranteed
• Electronic Health Record: EPIC preferred
• Scrubs: Navy blue/white

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg / Telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
• Skilled in peripheral line care/management, including PICC and central lines
• Competent in non-invasive airway management

Additional Notes

• No locals accepted within 75 miles radius
• Return to office (RTO) restrictions: Keep RTO close to 1 week
• Facility uses Rapid Response Teams and has PCT support on all units
• Float pool includes MS, ED, ICU, and acute brain injury units with stable patients
