Job Opportunity: RN Step Down

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)

Job Description

• Provide safe, efficient, age-specific nursing care to patients and families using the nursing process.
• Assist patients to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status.
• Deliver effective relationship-based nursing care.
• Demonstrate technical skills that ensure safe practice and positive care outcomes.
• Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively to optimize patient care and clinical operations.
• Contribute to professional nursing practice and display leadership to influence clinical and operational outcomes.
• Nurse/patient ratio typically 1:5 or 1:6.
• Floating requirement to various inpatient areas including step down units, medical care units, surgical units, and emergency departments for boarded patients.

Required Qualifications

• License: Valid, permanent Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio. Temporary licenses are NOT accepted.
• Certifications:

  • BLS (American Heart Association)
  • ACLS (American Heart Association)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in RN Step Down or equivalent specialty nursing.
• Additional Health Requirements:

  • COVID-19 vaccine preferred but not required (medical or religious exemptions accepted).
  • MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and Tdap vaccinations or titers as per clinical requirements.
  • Annual influenza vaccine required during flu season (October-March) or approved declination with masking.
  • Fit test for approved respirators completed within 1 year.
  • 2-step PPD or IGRA TB test within last 6 months (annual requirement).
  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to work without restrictions.

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background check within 6 months including social security trace and county searches.
• Ohio fingerprinting and FBI background checks as applicable based on residency duration.
• Drug screen within 60 days of start (10-panel, lab report required; instant screens not accepted).
• Employment and education verifications completed through third-party sources.
• Completion of required competency exams, skills checklists, and core competencies with passing scores.
• Completion of safety and compliance training modules prior to clearance (annual renewal).
• Valid non-expired photo ID (driver’s license or state ID).

Additional Information

• This role requires flexibility to float to multiple inpatient units including step down, medical, surgical, and emergency departments.
• Strong communication and leadership skills are essential.
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
