Job Opportunity: Outpatient Surgery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room Circulator


Job Details

  • Schedule: Four 9-hour shifts per week; varied shift times (6:00-3:30, 6:30-4:00, 8:00-5:30, 8:30-6:00)
  • Patient Population: Pediatrics to Geriatrics
  • Unit Systems: Epic, Pyxis
  • Ratio / Census: 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio; 5 operating rooms with an average daily census of 18
  • Floating: Rare, within facility and scope of practice as needed
  • Call Requirements: No formal call; however, may be required to stay late based on room completion status
  • Weekends: None
  • Holidays: Expected to work major holidays if they fall during assignment (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
  • Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days; blackout dates during Spring Break (April 4th-12th)
  • Scrub Color: Provided by facility

Contract Length

  • 14 weeks

Required Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as an RN circulator in the intraoperative setting
  • Experience with specialties including retina surgery, total hip/knee replacements, hand surgery, breast oncology and reconstruction, ENT, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, podiatry
  • Note: 1st time travelers are accepted

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on specialty or unit:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for certain specialties (check unit specifics)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required if working with pediatric patients in certain areas
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – May be required depending on specialty
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Facility requires online course completion within a few months of hire (no renewal required)

Required Licenses

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for the state of Georgia

Required Compliance and Documentation

  • Background check completed within 30 days prior to start, including education verification
  • Education verification of related degree (can be pending at start with proof of processing)
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if history of positive TB)
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required by agency
  • Color blindness testing required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required if applicable to specialty/unit

Additional Notes

  • Full compliance with all documentation and certifications is required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to orientation scheduling
  • Candidates will undergo a clinical pre-screen to determine fit before final approval
  • Locals are accepted at the same rate
  • Orientation hours are non-billable and vary based on contract length
