Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (ORTHO)

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with Medical Surgical ORTHO experience for a Level I Trauma Center. This is a travel contract position with start date ASAP.


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical experience, including experience within the last year
  • Orthopedics experience
  • Experience working with Level I Trauma patients in an Acute Care setting
  • One completed travel assignment
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Work Schedule & Environment

  • Shift options: 48-hour or 36-hour shifts
  • On-call: As needed
  • Weekend requirement: As needed (no weekend block scheduling, but weekend block may be considered)
  • Team nursing ratios (discuss during interview)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for Medical Surgical/Tele units and OR travelers at certain locations
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for all RNs except at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital
  • Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM are not required for this position

Licensure

  • Tennessee RN license required or multistate NLC license

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 60 days of start (statewide, county, federal, education verification)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
  • Education verification required (diploma/transcript not accepted in lieu)
  • Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search (facility-specific)
  • Two recent professional references required
  • Performance evaluation and skills checklist may be required if employed with agency for 1+ year

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
  • Immunizations required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (proof of vaccines or positive titers with boosters if needed)
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no pending compliance allowed)
  • Fit test for 3M N-95 mask within 1 year of start (must pass; no exceptions)

Additional Requirements

  • Photo for badge with strict guidelines (passport-style photo, no hats, no glasses with glare, no filters, no facial piercings)
  • Submission of required documentation including I9, government-issued ID, social security card, and E-Verify attestation
  • Must comply with facility dress code (navy blue scrubs for RNs, no prints or embroidered scrubs)

Notes

  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at time of application; no changes after offer without manager approval
  • Candidates with Cerner or EPIC experience may have additional questionnaires or training requirements
  • Internal evaluations required for contract extensions after one year

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical ORTHO RNs with trauma and large hospital experience who have prior travel assignments and are ready for a 13-week travel contract in a Level I Trauma Center environment.
