Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Medical Telemetry unit with 24 inpatient beds and up to 10 observation/day surgeries. The unit cares for patients with diagnoses including nursing home placement, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU issues, pacemaker management, sepsis, and day surgeries such as orthopedic (hips and knees), cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and TURPS-CBI. Small pediatric population present but typically not assigned to travelers unless prior experience or no other options.

Required Qualifications

• License: Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Michigan
• Certifications: BLS (AHA) required; ACLS preferred
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry acute care nursing experience
• Skills:

  • Comfortable with IV starts (no IV team onsite)
  • Prefer experience or knowledge of TURPS-CBI procedures
  • Prefer candidates with Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 experience
• Other: Must be able to float to like units and patients

Work Environment & Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 5:1 day shift, 6:1 night shift
• Team nursing model with LPNs (2 LPNs to 7 RNs)
• Charge nurse role includes patient assignment; travelers may serve as relief charge nurse
• Nurse aides available on unit
• Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage until 6pm daily; telemedicine used after hours
• Respiratory Therapist available 24/7; CPAP equipment onsite
• Telemetry monitoring with basic arrhythmia knowledge required
• No requirement for RNs to titrate drips

Scheduling & Orientation

• 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Weekend rotation every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required (2 out of 3 holidays)
• Potential call/standby assignments
• Orientation includes:

  • Day 1: 8 hours computer education + 4 hours shadowing
  • Day 2: 12-hour orientation shift
  • Day 3: Independent work

• Solid professional dress code, no specific scrub color required
• Must clock in and out at the facility
• Prior work at this facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
