Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - L&D/PP

Location: Oxnard, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery/Postpartum (L&D/PP) Nurse for a travel contract in California. The role involves working in a busy unit with a mix of L&D, triage, postpartum, and nursery beds. Nurses will provide care for high-risk deliveries, patients of any gestational age, and a diverse patient population including many Spanish speakers.

Unit Details

• L&D Beds: 7
• Triage Beds: 4 (+ 2 overflow)
• Postpartum Beds: 27 (+ 5 bed nursery)
• Births: Approximately 3 per day (1,545 per year)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines
• EMR system: Cerner
• Fetal Monitoring System: FetalLink
• 12-hour shifts (7am-7:30pm, 7pm-7:30am)
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Call: Optional, preferred if willing
• Holidays: Typically one major and one minor holiday worked with permanent staff
• Scrub Color: Navy

Responsibilities

• Serve as shift manager or charge nurse for L&D and PP units
• Collaborate with OB techs who assist with c-sections and deliveries
• Circulate during c-sections (scrubbing not required)
• Float between L&D, Postpartum, and NICU as needed
• Care for high-risk deliveries, substance abuse withdrawal patients, and those without prenatal care
• Support NICU grower/feeders when floating

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2-3 years of L&D/PP nursing experience (higher value taken)
• Prior travel experience preferred (at least one prior travel contract)
• Active California RN license
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN (intermediate or advanced fetal monitoring)
• COVID-19 vaccination required

Additional Information

• Orientation: 3 shifts floor-specific
• In-house OB/Neonatologist available 24/7 with 30-minute response time
• Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
• No ventilators or IV team on unit
• Patient population includes high-risk deliveries, EMT drop-offs, and many Spanish-speaking patients

This position is ideal for an experienced L&D/PP nurse comfortable with a fast-paced environment, flexible with floating, and willing to work weekends and holidays as scheduled.
