Registered Nurse – Med Tele

Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Unit: Medical Telemetry
• Beds: 24 inpatient, plus up to 10 observation/day surgeries
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 5:1
  • Night shift (11pm): 6:1
  • Team nursing with LPNs (2 LPNs to 7 patients)
• Common Diagnoses:

  • Nursing home patients, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU issues, pacemaker care, sepsis
  • Day surgical cases: Orthopedics (hips and knees), cholecystectomy, appendectomy, TURPS-CBI
  • Small pediatric population (3/year) – only assigned to travelers with prior experience or if no other options available
• Resources: Limited onsite (no IV team; RN must be comfortable with IV starts)
• Respiratory Therapy: Oversees entire hospital; CPAP available
• Telemetry: Basic arrhythmia monitoring knowledge required; physical monitor at nurse’s desk
• Charge Nurse: Yes, charge nurse takes assignment; travelers may serve as relief charge
• Support Staff: Nurse aides present
• Physician Coverage: Hospitalist or intensivist onsite until 6pm, then telemedicine coverage
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7am–7pm and 7pm–7am)
• Scheduling: Attempts made to accommodate self-scheduling; longer blocks of 6 shifts possible
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday Requirement: 2 out of 3 holidays required
• Call/Standby: Potential opportunity to be placed on call or standby
• Floating: Must be able to float to like units and patients
• Orientation:

  • Day 1: 8 hours computer education + 4 hours shadowing
  • Day 2: 12-hour orientation shift
  • Day 3: Independent work

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of acute care experience, including at least 1 year of telemetry experience within the last year
• Ability to perform IV starts
• Basic telemetry arrhythmia monitoring knowledge
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Additional Notes

• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Solid professional dress code; no specific scrub color required
• Clinicians who have previously worked at this facility must have a minimum 6-month gap since last employment
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
