Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Observation

Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Details

  • Unit: Observation (extension of Emergency Room)
  • Beds: 16
  • Patient Types: Chest pain rule out MI, post heart catheterization (no sheaths), stable pre-CABG, post interventional radiology and endovascular procedures
  • Common Medications: Non-titration Amiodarone, Cardizem, Labetalol
  • No ventilators, BiPAP, or CPAP patients
  • Hospitalist covers call; Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
  • Floating: Required to float to any telemetry/med-surg floor, including a sister facility
  • Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation plus a pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation

Work Schedule & Staffing

  • Charge Nurse coverage: 24/7
  • Nurse Aides (PCTs) staffed per census for primary care
  • Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Rotate with core staff; must work 2 of 3 major holidays
  • Scrub Color: Navy

Required Certifications & Skills

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Critical thinking skills are a must

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Observation nursing (within the past 6 months)
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required

Additional Requirements & Notes

  • Must not live within 50 miles of the facility (50-mile radius rule) and must provide a current driver’s license
  • Candidates cannot have worked permanently at this facility or its affiliated facilities within the past 12 months (no exceptions)
  • Travelers must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 24-48 hours of offer (max 2 attempts) or will be disqualified for 6 months in this region
  • Must pass a simulation lab on day 1 of orientation or will be sent home and disqualified for 6 months in this region
  • No patients with alcohol withdrawal unless 3 days out
  • Floating includes sister facility coverage

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong critical thinking skills and recent observation unit experience who are comfortable with floating and working a rotating weekend and holiday schedule.
