Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Observation

Location: Chandler, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

Unit: Observation (extension of Emergency Room)
Beds: 16
Patient Types: Chest pain rule out MI, post heart catheterization (no sheaths), stable pre-CABG, post interventional radiology and endovascular procedures
Common Medications: Non-titration Amiodarone, Cardizem, Labetalol
No ventilators, BiPAP, or CPAP patients
Hospitalist covers call; Respiratory Therapy and Pharmacy available 24/7
Floating: Required to float to any telemetry/med-surg floor, including a sister facility
Orientation: 2 days floor-specific orientation plus a pass/fail simulation lab on day 1 of orientation

Work Schedule & Staffing

Charge Nurse coverage: 24/7
Nurse Aides (PCTs) staffed per census for primary care
Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend
Holiday Requirement: Rotate with core staff; must work 2 of 3 major holidays
Scrub Color: Navy

Required Certifications & Skills

BLS (Basic Life Support)
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Critical thinking skills are a must

Experience Requirements

Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Observation nursing (within the past 6 months)
No prior travel experience explicitly required

Additional Requirements & Notes

Must not live within 50 miles of the facility (50-mile radius rule) and must provide a current driver’s license
Candidates cannot have worked permanently at this facility or its affiliated facilities within the past 12 months (no exceptions)
Travelers must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 24-48 hours of offer (max 2 attempts) or will be disqualified for 6 months in this region
Must pass a simulation lab on day 1 of orientation or will be sent home and disqualified for 6 months in this region
No patients with alcohol withdrawal unless 3 days out
Floating includes sister facility coverage

This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong critical thinking skills and recent observation unit experience who are comfortable with floating and working a rotating weekend and holiday schedule.
