Job Opportunity: RN Step Down

Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work every other week (EOW) and every other holiday (EOH) schedule.
  • Requires 2 years of experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit) / Med-Surg Telemetry Acute Care.
  • Placement will be on a unit with the greatest need, which may be PCU, Med/Surg, or Telemetry units based on the nurse’s skills.
  • Candidates with experience as Med-Surg or Stepdown RN are acceptable (same credentialing for both).
  • Must be willing and able to float onsite within skill set or to other sites within 40 miles if needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit), including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in Med-Surg and Telemetry units

Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

  • Proof of immunizations and health screenings including:
    • MMR (2 doses or positive titer; no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella (2 doses or immunity verification; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
    • Influenza vaccine during flu season (mask required if declined)
    • Tdap (valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted)
    • TB testing (2-step PPD or IGRA with annual questionnaire; chest X-ray if positive)
  • Fit test for respiratory protection (3M 1860 or 1870+ masks) required annually.
  • Drug screening (12 panel) within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter.
  • Background checks including criminal history and employment verification.
  • Completion of specialty exams and core competencies (HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission, etc.) with minimum passing scores.
  • Health statement or physical exam prior to assignment and updated annually.
  • Driver’s license or state ID (must be current and match address requirements).
  • Professional references and resume/profile submission required.
  • Completion of onboarding education and training modules specific to nursing contingent workers.
  • Badge photo (headshot) required.

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Floating to other units or nearby sites may be required based on staffing needs.
  • Must maintain all required certifications and complete annual updates as specified.

This position is ideal for experienced Step Down or Med-Surg RNs with strong acute care skills and flexibility to work in various related units.
