Job Description

• Provide nursing care on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit.
• Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
• Patient ratios:

  • Day/Evening shifts: 5:1 (stretch 6-7)
  • Night shifts: 6-7:1 (stretch 8-10 if staff calls in)
• Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living.
• Float within scope to meet facility needs, including floating between like units.
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW).
• Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed.
• No local hires accepted within 75 miles.

Patient Population / Unit

• Cardiac Unit with focus on telemetry.
• Responsibilities include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Use of Rapid Response Teams.
• Care involving peripheral lines, nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks, and non-invasive airway management.
• Adherence to isolation precautions.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing within the last year.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Proficiency in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Experience with use of Rapid Response Teams.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency.

Additional Requirements

• No on-call duties.
• Government-issued photo ID required.
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, SSN trace, national sex offender registry, education verification, and others as per facility policy.
• Physical exam and health-related requirements must be completed within 5 days of contract signing, including but not limited to:

  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray.
  • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start.
  • Flu vaccination or signed declination during flu season.
  • Fit mask testing and eye exam.
• References and employment verification required.
• Facility-specific documents and attestations must be completed.
• No more than 1 week of return-to-office (RTO) allowed during contract.

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for an RN with at least 1 year of experience in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing. The role requires strong skills in cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia management, and peripheral line care. Candidates must hold a valid New York RN license and current BLS certification. First-time travelers are welcome. The position involves floating within similar units and working every other weekend. Compliance with extensive health, background, and facility-specific documentation is mandatory.
