Job Opportunity: RN Med Surg Telemetry

Location: Waco, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide direct nursing care following established policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Serve as primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
• Carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning with healthcare team members.
• Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
• Minimum of 1 year telemetry nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Onboarding and Compliance

• Specialty competency exam with minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years.
• Color vision test, updated every 3 years.
• Core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics, updated every 3 years.
• NIH certification (Group A yearly, Groups B-F every 2 years).
• EKG exam with minimum 80% passing score, updated every 3 years.
• Epic electronic health record test and training checklist with signed attestation.
• Completion of onboarding education attestation and contract worker onboarding.
• Pre-hire modules specific to non-allied positions.
• Health requirements including:

  • MMR: documented proof of two vaccines or positive titer (no declinations).
  • Fit test for respiratory protection, updated annually.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination.
  • Influenza vaccine during flu season (mask required if declined).
  • Varicella immunity proof or vaccination (no declinations).
  • Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (no declinations).
  • TB screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA with annual questionnaire; chest x-ray if positive.
  • Statement of good health or physical exam prior to assignment, updated annually.
• Drug screening: 12-panel drug test within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.
• Criminal background check including social security trace, OIG search, national sex offender registry, and others within 30 days prior to start; updated annually.
• Employment and education verifications within 90 days prior to start; updated annually.
• Driver’s license or state ID valid and matching address requirements.

Additional Notes

• Optional unit-specific checklist may be required by unit leader within one week of start.
• Post-assignment evaluations and legal documentation (e.g., name change) may be requested but are optional.
• Badge photo may be required for identification purposes.

This position is ideal for an experienced telemetry RN comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment, with all required certifications and compliance documentation up to date.
