Registered Nurse - Med Tele

Location: Iron Mountain, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Unit: Medical Telemetry
• Beds: 24 inpatient, plus up to 10 observation/day surgeries
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 5:1
  • Night shift (11pm): 6:1 with LPN support (team nursing model)
• Common Diagnoses:

  • Nursing home patients, cellulitis, UTI, COPD, GU issues, pacemaker care, sepsis
  • Day surgeries including ortho (hips/knees), cholecystectomy, appendectomy, TURPS-CBI
  • Small pediatric population (rare, only with prior experience or no other options)
• Float Requirement: Must be able to float to like units and patients

Shifts & Scheduling

• 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Weekend rotation every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required (approximately 2 out of 3 holidays)
• Potential call/standby opportunities
• Self-scheduling considered, longer blocks of 6 shifts when possible

Orientation

• Day 1: 8 hours computer education + 4 hours shadowing
• Day 2: 12-hour orientation shift
• Day 3: Independent work

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 1 year experience in Medical/Surgical or Medical Telemetry nursing (acute care)
• Preferred experience with TURPS-CBI procedures
• Preferred experience in Critical Access or Trauma Level 3 or 4 settings
• Comfortable with IV starts (no IV team onsite)
• Basic telemetry arrhythmia knowledge required (monitoring done at nurse’s station)
• Charge nurse role possible, including assignment responsibility and relief charge coverage

Equipment & Support

• Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 (RT oversees entire hospital)
• RT equipment includes CPAP
• Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage until 6 PM daily; telemedicine used after hours
• Nurse aids available on unit
• RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Tele/Monitor tech support available in ICU daily

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA) required
• ACLS preferred

Additional Notes

• Solid professional dress code, no specific scrub color required
• Clinicians must clock in/out at the facility
• Prior employment with this facility requires a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying

License Requirement

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Michigan required
