Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU Float

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

  • Float required to all Medical-Surgical (MS), MS/Telemetry, and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) units within the hospital.
  • Patient population includes adults to geriatrics.
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • PCU: 1:4-5
    • MS, MS Telemetry: 1:5-6
  • Work system includes Epic (required), Pyxis, and SBAR.
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue.
  • Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum: 7 days.
  • Weekend shifts: Every other weekend (approximately 6 weekends in a 13-week contract).
  • Floating is mandatory.
  • No call requirements.
  • Holiday work expectations:
    • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it.
    • If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both.
    • If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work two.
      Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
  • Experience in Medical-Surgical (Med Surg) nursing
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health records system

Additional Requirements

  • Background Checks: Must be completed and cleared prior to start, including education verification.
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months of start.
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months.
    • Required immunizations or titers: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended).
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
    • Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season.
  • References: Two clinical references required.
  • Skills Checklist: Must be updated within the last 12 months.
  • Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Floating across multiple units is required.
  • Compliance with all orientation and credentialing requirements is mandatory to start on time.
  • Orientation hours vary based on contract length.
  • Return to Orientation blackout dates apply during Spring Break (early April).
  • Professional appearance and dress code must be followed.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required.
  • This position accepts local candidates at the same rate.
  • Full compliance with all documentation and credentialing is required to avoid delays in start date.

This role is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least one year of experience who is flexible and comfortable floating across multiple adult and geriatric care units, with strong competency in telemetry and progressive care nursing.
