Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Start Date: ASAP


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
  • Required Experience: Minimum 3 years recent experience in Medical Surgical nursing (first-time travelers accepted only if 3+ years recent experience)
  • Trauma Level: Level I Trauma experience required
  • Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:7 (team nursing model with support from PCC, RN, etc.)
  • On-Call: As needed
  • Weekend Requirement: As needed (no weekend block scheduling except possible exceptions)
  • Locals: Not accepted (strict 100-mile radius rule)
  • Pending License: Not accepted; must comply with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines
  • Travel Experience: Prior travel experience required
  • Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center
  • Block Scheduling: Not open to block schedules except possible weekend block consideration

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 3 years of recent Medical Surgical nursing experience; at least 2 years of Medical Surgical experience within the last year
  • Level I Trauma experience
  • Prior travel nursing experience with at least one completed travel assignment (first-time travelers considered only if 3+ years recent experience)
  • Experience in a large hospital setting
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by AHA or ARC
    • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Background checks including statewide, county, federal, education verification, sex offender search, and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start
  • Immunizations and health requirements:
    • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination
    • TB testing (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year, updated annually
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (mask required if exempt)
  • Fit mask test (3M N-95 1860 or 1870+), passed within 1 year prior to start
  • Two recent professional references required
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluation as applicable

Additional Information

  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
  • Photo for badge required with strict guidelines (passport-style photo, no hats/head coverings except for religious reasons, no glasses glare, no piercings visible)
  • On-call and weekend shifts as needed; no block scheduling except possible weekend block
  • All required documentation must be submitted at time of application; no multiple submissions to different job IDs/facilities allowed
  • Must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and compliance requirements

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with Level I Trauma experience who have prior travel nursing experience and are ready for a night shift travel contract in a high-acuity, Level I Trauma hospital setting.
