Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med Surg/IMC/Tele)

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit Type: Intermediate Care (IMC) / Telemetry / Med Surg
• Beds: 28
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Day/PM shifts: 1:5
  • Night shifts: 1:5-7 (average 6, must be comfortable with up to 7 patients)
• Patient Population:

  • Up to 75% cardiac patients (pre/post caths, pre-CABG, chest pain, NSTEMIs)
  • Other diagnoses include CHF, COPD, pneumonia, diabetes, dialysis, altered mental status, nephrology, hematology, wounds, and stroke overflow

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Telemetry, IMC, or Stepdown nursing
• Majority of experience must be in cardiac care (heavy cardiac unit experience required)
• Experience with IV drip titration (insulin, heparin, nitro, diltiazem, lasix)
• BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• Good communication, teamwork, and work ethic
• Prior travel experience preferred but not required

Job Details

• Drip titration required by RN
• Telemetry monitoring supported by techs off-unit; nurses check their own cardiac rhythms on monitors
• Charge nurse has some patient assignments but primarily supports staff and charge duties
• Nurse aide ratios:

  • Day/PM: 1 aide per 9 patients
  • Night: 1 aide per 14 patients (if fully staffed)
• Respiratory equipment used includes continuous CPAP/BiPAP, high flow oxygen, vapotherm, nebulizers, chest PT; no ventilators
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts (0700-1900, 1100-2300, 1900-0700)
• Scheduling: No self-scheduling; block scheduling attempts made but not guaranteed
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• No on-call or standby required for agency staff; scheduling in 4-hour blocks possible
• Floating: Staff may float to other Med/Surg floors or other specialty areas if experienced
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs, clean and professional
• Orientation: 1 full 12-hour day off-unit orientation plus 1 full 12-hour shift on-unit orientation

Additional Notes

• Clinicians who have previously worked at this facility must have a minimum 6-month gap since last employment
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility

This position is ideal for RNs with strong cardiac and telemetry experience seeking a 13-week contract in a busy IMC/Telemetry unit with diverse patient populations.
