Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
- Shift Options: 48-hour shifts or 36-hour shifts
- Patient Ratio: 1:12 (team nursing model with 2 RNs, LPN, med nurse & virtual nurse)
- Start Dates Available: May 4, May 18
- On-Call: As needed
- Weekend Requirement: As needed (no weekend block scheduling, but weekend blocks may be considered)
- Locals Accepted: No (100-mile radius rule)
- Pending License: Not accepted; must comply with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines
- First-time travelers: Not accepted
- Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions: Must be included at time of submission; late submissions will not be approved
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Tennessee
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical and/or Telemetry nursing, with experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level I Trauma patients in a large hospital setting
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Trauma experience in a Level I Trauma Center environment
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- NIH Stroke Certification (required annually for all RNs except pediatric specialty)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, TNCC, EFM)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 60 days of start, including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
- Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search (for TN facilities)
- Education verification required (diploma/transcript not accepted in lieu)
- Two recent professional references required
- Performance evaluation and skills checklist may be required for extensions or agency tenure over one year
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Immunizations required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (proof of vaccination or positive titer)
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30)
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no pending compliance allowed)
- Fit test for 3M N-95 masks within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
Additional Notes
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
- Photo badge required prior to start (passport-style photo with specific guidelines)
- Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed before start
- Submission packet includes application, references, skills checklist, license verification, and certifications
- EPIC experience questionnaire required for RNs; opportunity to test out of EPIC training during orientation if applicable
This position is for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with trauma and travel experience, ready to work in a high-acuity, Level I Trauma Center environment under a team nursing model.
