Registered Nurse (SICU/CVICU) - Travel Contract

Location: Stockton, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced SICU/CVICU nurse for a travel contract in a high-acuity, fast-paced intensive care unit. The nurse will care for cardiovascular and cardiothoracic patients, including those recovering fresh hearts directly from the OR.


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of SICU/CVICU nursing experience
  • Experience with open heart surgeries and recovering fresh hearts directly from the OR within the last 6 months (mandatory)
  • General medical and surgical ICU experience in addition to CVICU experience
  • Experience with TAVR, Impella, IABP, lumbar drains, Swan-Ganz catheters, manual hemodynamics preferred
  • Familiarity with STEMI, AAA, hypothermia, sepsis, and other MedSurg ICU patients (no CRRT)
  • Active California RN license
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS
  • CCRN certification preferred
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Unit & Work Environment

  • Unit: SICU/CVICU, 10 beds
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 or 1:2
  • EMR system: Cerner (experience required)
  • Charge nurse and resource nurse available 24/7
  • Patient care support staff/unit clerk available (no techs)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (rarely more)
  • Holiday coverage: 2 out of 3 major winter holidays, others as needed
  • Scrub color: Navy blue (including jackets and undershirts in navy, white, or black)
  • Telemetry monitors: Phillips central monitors and hardwired in rooms
  • Ventilators: Draeger, Hamilton G5, Galileo; transport vent LVT
  • Intensivist coverage: In-house 7am-5pm, on-call after hours
  • Respiratory therapy and pharmacy available 24/7

Shift & Scheduling

  • 12-hour shifts (7am - 7:30pm)
  • No self-scheduling; time off requests must be submitted before contract start
  • Block scheduling possible but not guaranteed
  • Floating: May float to other ICUs or ER for inpatient ICU holds
  • Orientation: 1 shift with a preceptor

Additional Notes

  • Very high acuity and fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility required as assignments and patient acuity can change anytime during the shift
  • Nurses may be floated to other ICUs during their shift
  • Must complete all required MyJourney modules prior to arrival (no exceptions)

Summary

This position is ideal for an experienced SICU/CVICU nurse with strong cardiovascular ICU skills, recent open heart recovery experience, and the ability to work in a dynamic, high-acuity environment. Cerner EMR experience and required certifications are essential.
