Surgical Technologist - Pediatric Cardiac Operating Room

Location: Tacoma, Washington
Shift: 12-hour Days (0630 - 1900)
Hours per Week: 36
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work primarily in a Pediatric Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) with a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center and Level IV NICU.
  • Patient population includes neonates to 18 years old, as well as adult-sized patients, including those with developmental delays and congenital anomalies.
  • Common cases include cardiothoracic surgeries such as Tetralogy of Fallot repair, pericardial window, transposition of great vessels, open heart valve repairs, ECMO, PDA ligation via thoracotomy, and ASD repairs.
  • Assist in General OR cases when CVOR is not busy (floating).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid CVOR Technologist license in Washington
  • Minimum 3 years of CVOR Technologist experience
  • CVOR Technologist experience within the last year
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience working with Pediatric patients
  • Surgical Technologist experience

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Prior travel experience: First-time travelers are not accepted unless they have 5+ years of Pediatric CVOR experience.
  • On-call requirement: 1 call shift per week with a 30-minute response time; 2 weekends on call in a 6-week period.
  • Weekend rotation: Call only.
  • Scrub color provided by hospital.
  • Free parking available.
  • Compliance with standard healthcare documentation, immunizations, background checks, and certifications is required.

  • Neonates through 18 years old, including adult-sized patients.
  • Developmentally delayed and congenital anomaly patients.
  • Cardiothoracic cases involving complex congenital heart defects and repairs.

Work Environment

  • Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.
  • Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

This position is ideal for experienced Pediatric CVOR Surgical Technologists seeking a specialized travel assignment with a focus on complex pediatric cardiothoracic cases.
