Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU

Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day/Night, 12-hour shifts (0700-1930 and 1900-0730)
  • Schedule: Every other weekend, some holidays, no call required
  • Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Experience Required:
    • CVICU experience is required
    • Experience and knowledge of NextStage CVVH machine required
    • Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery and/or Acuity Adaptable area preferred
  • Specialty Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year (implied by CVICU experience requirement)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
  • Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience and knowledge of the NextStage CVVH machine
  • Basic Arrhythmia experience

Testing & Competency Requirements

  • Telemetry Test:
    • Pass/fail Telemetry test required before starting
    • Annual renewal required
    • Candidates allowed up to 3 attempts with remediation after 2nd failure
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
  • Other Competency Exams: As applicable to specialty

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including SSN trace, nationwide and county searches, sex offender registry, and others as required by state and facility standards
  • Wisconsin Caregiver Screening within 90 days prior to start
  • Education verification as applicable
  • Physical exam (to meet agency standard)
  • Immunizations and health documents including:
    • TB testing and questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or exemption
    • Varicella vaccination or exemption
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination form
    • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
    • Other vaccines as applicable (e.g., Meningococcal for certain departments)
  • Drug screening per agency standards
  • Signed acknowledgment of safety manual and pass/fail testing policies

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge required (passport-style, no headwear except for religious/medical reasons)
  • Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments must be completed prior to start
  • References: 2 clinical references within the last 3 years required (agency standard)
  • Employment application and annual skills checklist required

This position is ideal for experienced CVICU RNs with strong telemetry and arrhythmia skills, comfortable working 12-hour shifts on a rotating weekend schedule in a critical care environment.
