Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Float Pool (ICU/MedSurg Telemetry/PCU)

Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit/Department Overview

  • Float Pool includes ICU, MedSurg Telemetry, and PCU units across two campuses.
  • Units also cover inpatients holding in the Emergency Department.
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • PCU: 1:4
    • MedSurg Telemetry: 1:5-6
  • Patient population includes geriatric, orthopedic, post-procedural cardiac patients (post-MI, post-cardiac cath, CABG post-op day 3-4).
  • Respiratory support equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and heated high flow in PCU and MedSurg.

Required Certifications & Exams

  • BLS and ACLS certifications required.
  • Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing.

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required.
  • Must be comfortable titrating drips including Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitro, Dopamine, Dobutamine, and Insulin.
  • Ability to interpret cardiac monitor strips is required.

Scheduling & Work Environment

  • Shifts: 7 AM to 7 PM (day and evening shifts).
  • Scheduling is managed by the float pool scheduler; schedule published 6 weeks in advance for 4 weeks at a time.
  • Night shift may allow block scheduling.
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
  • Holiday coverage includes travelers in permanent staff rotation.
  • Call/standby may be required during shifts with excessive staff; standby nurses must be available to be called in at any time during their 12-hour shift.
  • Unit assignments communicated by text message approximately 2 hours before shift start.
  • Distance between campuses is approximately 20-25 minutes.
  • Dress code: solid color professional scrubs, transitioning to navy scrubs in October.

Orientation

  • 8-hour general hospital orientation day.
  • 12-hour shift orientation at West MedSurg Telemetry and PCU units.
  • East campus orientation is similar but smaller and easier to navigate.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any related facilities within the past year.
  • Nurse aids are utilized on all units.
  • Charge nurses do not take patient assignments.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Minimum 1 year ICU experience.
  • Ability to titrate drips and interpret cardiac rhythms.
  • Successful completion of dysrhythmia exam prior to contract.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable working across multiple critical care and stepdown units in a float pool setting.
