Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • 10-hour day shifts
  • Must be able to scrub orthopedic cases
  • Ability to circulate and scrub, especially in Orthopedics (Joints), ENT, Ophthalmology
  • Experience required in General Surgery, Endoscopy/Laparoscopy, Gynecology, Plastic Surgery, and Podiatry Surgery
  • Strong orthopedic and scrubbing experience is required
  • Airway management and aseptic technique skills required
  • Must be willing and able to float to other units as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in airway management
  • Experience in Orthopedics, including scrubbing and circulating
  • Experience in ENT Surgery
  • Experience in Ophthalmology
  • Experience in Plastic Surgery
  • Experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN)

Certifications & Competencies

  • AHA BLS & ACLS (no exceptions, must have original cards)
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry Exam required for all RNs working in specified units
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam with a passing score of 80% or higher
  • Unit-specific competency exams with a passing score of 80% or higher
  • Core Parts I, II, and III competency exams annually with passing scores of 80% or higher
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (may be required for some units)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, EFM)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including specific county and nationwide searches, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start including fitness to work statement
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required)
  • Immunizations and titers: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), TB tests, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption required (not required if 100% remote)
  • Annual TB questionnaire and other health screenings as required

Additional Requirements

  • Two supervisory references required, preferably from the most recent employment
  • Current and updated resume with last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
  • Must complete facility-specific learning modules and cybersecurity awareness training prior to starting work
  • Must comply with facility-specific policies including parking, uniform, and COVID-19 preparedness

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
  • Floating to other units and facilities may be required
  • Telemetry (Tele) testing is required for RNs working in certain units; this is a pass/fail exam on ECG knowledge and medication administration
  • Candidates must be prepared for pass/fail testing on the first day of orientation

This position is ideal for experienced Operating Room Registered Nurses with strong orthopedic scrubbing skills and a willingness to work in a dynamic surgical environment.
