Respiratory Therapist

Location: Johnson City, New York
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Shift: Night
Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide timely, accurate, and reliable respiratory therapy services to inpatients, outpatients, staff, and affiliated community groups.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer respiratory therapy procedures including aerosol therapy, CPT/Flutter/PEP mask therapy, incentive spirometry, M.D.I. therapy, suctioning, and extubation.
• Manage oxygen therapy, oxygen tank safety, BiPAP-CPAP therapy and alarms, cough assist/vest therapy, and high flow cannula/humidifier therapy and alarms.
• Perform pulmonary function screening, fit testing, pulse oximetry, adult and pediatric EKGs.
• Provide adult, pediatric, and neonatal BLS life support.
• Manage mechanical ventilation and ventilator alarms.
• Perform arterial puncture and blood gas analysis, including quality control for the blood gas laboratory.
• Verify physician orders for pulmonary and cardiology diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Record and report procedure results accurately.
• Maintain departmental records and assist with in-service training programs.
• Use patient healthcare information systems and medication administration/dispensing programs.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Graduation from an accredited School for Respiratory Therapy.

Experience

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, including recent experience within the last year.
• Critical care experience.
• NICU experience.

Licensure & Certifications

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in New York State.
• New York State Respiratory Therapy Permit or License.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist credential from NBRC.
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.

Additional Skills

• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
