Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job in North Carolina (Burlington)


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Location: Burlington, North Carolina
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Schedule: Every other weekend and holidays as needed
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
  • Unit: Inpatient telemetry with a specialized stroke (neurology) patient population
  • Float Requirement: Must be willing to float between all facilities within the system

Required Experience & Skills

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Telemetry experience with a minimum of 2 years, including telemetry experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or ARC
  • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing requirements
  • Successful completion of EKG exam
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Experience with patient ratios of 1:5-6
  • Experience caring for CVA (stroke) patients

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • North Carolina RN license (Primary source verification required within 30 days of start)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for telemetry/stroke care units)
  • Pass/Fail EKG (Dysrhythmia) Exam - must pass with minimum 82%
  • EPIC electronic health record system proficiency
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (verify with program management)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Social Security Card (required for badge issuance)
  • Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including aliases and multiple search levels
  • Education verification (Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required)
  • Transcript or diploma copy may be required
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start (including THC, opiates, cocaine, amphetamines, etc.)
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine proof
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 6 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B titer or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
  • Fit mask test (N95 respirator) completed within current calendar year and updated annually
  • Physical exam (if applicable)
  • Employment application/resume with 7-year work history
  • Verification of employment history for last 5 years
  • Two supervisory references required (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
  • Completion of facility-specific documents including floating policy and contractor equipment acknowledgement
  • Badge photo meeting strict facility requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual/uniform attire)

Important Notes

  • The client has a zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences.
  • Compliance deadlines are strict; all required documentation must be completed by 12 Noon EST the Wednesday prior to the start date.
  • Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and floating between facilities.
  • Pass/fail EKG exam is mandatory for all RNs regardless of specialty.
  • First-time travelers are welcome; prior travel experience is not required.
  • Candidates must acknowledge and complete all required tests and documentation prior to clearance.
  • Candidates will receive Workday login information two weeks before start for onboarding tasks, including multi-factor authentication setup.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized inpatient telemetry unit focused on stroke patients, requiring strong clinical skills and flexibility.
