Job Opportunity: Observation Unit Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Position in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Observation Unit (2 East Clinical Decision Unit)
- Short Term Acute Care facility with 332 staffed beds
- Teaching hospital environment
- Charting system: EPIC
- Smoke-free facility (mandatory nicotine-free status)
- Floating required within scope to three nearby hospitals (within 20 miles)
- No block schedule accommodation
- Locals accepted at same rate
- Guaranteed hours: 36 hours for 3x12 shifts
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Florida
- Telemetry experience totaling at least 1.5 years, with telemetry experience within the last year
- Experience in Direct Observation Unit (DOU)
- Acute Care experience
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- Vasoactive drip experience
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Proof of I9 or attestation
- Government-issued photo ID required during hours of service
- E-Verify proof or attestation
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting accepted nationwide)
- Physical exam within 6 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (no Florida Medical Marijuana card accepted)
- Seasonal influenza vaccination required during flu season (medical/religious exemptions allowed with approved documentation)
- COVID-19 vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption required
- Two professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
- Employment application and skills checklist (updated annually) required
- Pass/fail testing on EKG and medication administered during orientation (2 attempts allowed)
Orientation and Training
- Orientation scheduled approximately 3-4 weeks from contract acceptance
- Completion of time-sensitive online training modules prior to start is mandatory (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone)
- Modules include COVID documentation submission and other facility-specific training
- Pass/fail testing on pharmacology and EKG during orientation
- Facility issues radiation badges if applicable
Additional Notes
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront with application; late requests are unlikely to be approved
- Free parking available in unrestricted spaces
- Candidates must be prepared to prioritize and complete onboarding modules promptly once contract is confirmed
