Description
Registered Nurse (ICU)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (0630-1830, 1830-0630)
Hours Guaranteed: 36 hours per week
Orientation: 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Medical-Surgical ICU
- Number of Beds: 34
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- ICU: 1:1-2
- PCU: 1:4-5
- Med Surg: 1:5-6
- Patient Population: Adults and pediatrics over 15 years old
- Common Diagnoses:
- Neuro surgery (experience not required)
- Respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke
- Cardiogenic shock (impella, balloon pump; experience not required)
- Renal failure (CRRT; experience not required)
- General surgery, psych/overdose, GI bleeds
- Cancer-specific surgeries (esophagectomy, internal chemo administration)
- Equipment & Monitoring:
- CVPs, Arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring (training provided)
- Zoll Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol
- Bell Mont rapid transfuser
- Respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators (RNs troubleshoot)
- Draeger heart monitoring with centralized telemetry; RNs must read and interpret strips
- Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, antiarrhythmics
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift, attends RRTs and Codes
- Support Staff: Patient care techs with a ratio of 1:18
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Scheduling & Requirements
- Weekend: Every other weekend required
- Holidays: 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other, based on unit needs
- Floating: Will float to all inpatient units except Maternity/NICU
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
- Scheduling: Manager assigns schedule based on unit needs (no self-scheduling)

- Successful candidates demonstrate critical thinking, positive attitude, teamwork, and strong communication skills
- Collaborative work environment with attendings, fellows, residents, and student providers
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with certain affiliated facilities
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals
