Registered Nurse (Med Surg Ortho Trauma)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, day and night coverage available
Schedule:
- Day Shift: 06:30 AM – 07:00 PM
- Night Shift: 06:30 PM – 07:00 AM
- Typically every other weekend required; schedules posted 6 weeks in advance
- 2-3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's
- Limited block scheduling available for travelers
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry / Orthopedics (4th Floor North & South)
- Number of Beds: 55
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
- Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio approximately 1:10-20
- Telemetry Techs interpret monitors; RNs should have telemetry awareness but do not read strips themselves
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, orthopedic trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive
- Charge Nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignments
- Floating required to other Med-Surg areas or units with Med-Surg patients waiting for beds
Clinical Responsibilities
- RN required to titrate drips: Heparin, lidocaine, ketamine
- Common drips: PCA pumps
- Mechanical lifts available in every other patient room
- Focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness
- Manage multiple discharges and admissions daily
Orientation & Training
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 days
- RN skills exam during orientation: Open book, must pass with 90% or higher to continue
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- BLS (AHA) required
- ACLS preferred
- Valid driver’s license required at time of submission (used to verify candidate is outside a 50-mile radius)
- Must comply with facility policies including prohibition of artificial nails in patient care areas
Additional Notes
- Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with certain large health systems within a 50-mile radius
- Emphasis on teamwork, good attendance, compassion, and cultural sensitivity (serves diverse populations including Spanish, Karen, Burmese)
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions approved

This is a 13-week travel contract for a Med-Surg RN with orthopedic and telemetry experience. The role requires flexibility for day or night shifts, weekend and holiday coverage, and the ability to manage a busy unit with diverse patient needs. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
