Description

Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry) - Travel/Contract Position

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Schedule: Every other weekend; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
Time Off: Up to 40 hours can be approved; no time off approved on Memorial Day, July 4th, or Labor Day


Unit and Patient Population

  • 17-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
  • Receives patients from Emergency Department, Medical ICU, clinics, outside hospitals, and nursing facilities
  • Wide range of medical diagnoses including diabetes, sickle cell crisis, COPD exacerbations, ESRD with pulmonary hypertension, wounds, drains, and tubes

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of telemetry nursing experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Documentation and Compliance

  • Proof of I9 or Attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal check within 60 days of start, updated annually
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated every 30 days
    • Education verification (BSN preferred; ASN required if no BSN)
  • Transcript or official diploma (photocopies not accepted)
  • Fingerprinting may be required depending on unit; Behavioral Health candidates require fingerprinting via Virginia Fieldprint
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry check required only for Behavioral Health or specific unit assignments
  • Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start for new and extension contracts

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap after age 11, no exemptions)
    • 2-step TB test or Qgold within 12 months; chest X-ray if positive
    • Annual TB questionnaire if past positive
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; no declinations accepted for measles
    • Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer required or negative surface antibody and antigen titers within 6 months
    • Varicella: 2 vaccines or titer required; declination accepted but must be documented
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required annually during flu season (no exemptions)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl within 2 months of start, updated annually
  • Fit testing for patient-facing roles completed onsite if required
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged

Orientation and Competency

  • Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm assessment required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable
  • Acknowledgment of pass/fail testing required for adult inpatient RN positions and Mother-Baby units

Additional Notes

  • Candidates may be offered 36 or 48 hours per week, but this posting specifies 36 hours
  • Block scheduling is not guaranteed
  • Time off requests cannot be approved for major holidays (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day)
  • Behavioral Health nurses require Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification (not applicable here)
