Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery
Location: Elmira, New York
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: Primarily nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) with rotation to days as needed (day and night shifts will not be assigned in the same week without prior discussion)
Job Description
- Provide care primarily on Labor & Delivery (L&D) with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Labor & Delivery/Maternity.
- Must be willing to float to Maternity and Med/Surg units as needed (including safety sitter duties).
- Patient ratio: 1:1 or 1:2.
- No charge nurse or preceptor responsibilities required.
- Competency required in fetal monitor strip interpretation and OR experience for Cesarean sections (C/S).
- Rotation schedule with majority night shifts.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current RN license valid in New York State (state license verification must be completed within 30 days prior to start).
- CPR (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) only.
- ACLS – AHA only.
- NRP or STABLE certification.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Minimum of 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Patient Care Ratios
- 1:1 or 1:2 patient ratio on Labor & Delivery.
Schedule Details
- Rotation between day and night shifts, primarily nights.
- Days and nights will not be scheduled in the same week without prior discussion.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Fit test for approved respirator models within the last 12 months (annual requirement).
- COVID-19 vaccine proof or agency declination (optional).
- MMR: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series required; titers must show results for each component (Measles, Mumps, Rubella).
- Varicella: Positive IgG titer or 2 vaccine series required.
- Hepatitis B: Positive antibody titer, 3 vaccine series, or specific declination form required.
- Influenza vaccine or specific declination form required; if declined, mask must be worn at all times.
- Tdap preferred within last 10 years; if not available, specific declination form required.
- TB testing: Must have one of the following within required timeframes:
- Two PPD skin tests (one within 12 months, one within 3 months), or
- One Quantiferon/Spot test within 12 months.
- For past positive TB tests, chest x-ray within 12 months may be required.
- Physical/Health Statement within last 12 months including height, weight, vitals, Snellen eye chart, and physician clearance with no restrictions.
Documentation & Onboarding Requirements
- Completed skills checklist for the unit assigned, updated annually.
- Core competency exam with a minimum score of 80%.
- Agency background check within 30 days of start, including national and county criminal searches for all counties lived/worked in last 7 years, FACIS 3 check, and SSN address trace.
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (9+ panel including amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, oxycodone, phencyclidine, methadone, methaqualone, propoxyphene, nitrites).
- Valid, unexpired US driver’s license or state ID.
- Color headshot photo (professional, no filters, JPEG format).
- Resume documenting all employment and gaps for last 7 years, education history with degree titles and graduation dates.
- Two professional references: one supervisor reference from last 12 months and one supervisor or peer reference from last 3 years.
- Signed job description and employment verification of most recent employer.
- Completion of required forms and acknowledgments including health personal information, code of conduct, confirmation of assignment, self-study packet and quiz, sexual harassment acknowledgement, parking registration, and others as provided in onboarding documents.
- TB questionnaire and Epic questionnaire forms specific to the assignment.
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- Must be willing to float to other units as needed for patient safety.
- Majority of shifts will be nights with some day shifts on rotation.
This position is ideal for an experienced Labor & Delivery RN comfortable with a flexible schedule and floating to related units, holding all required certifications and able to meet comprehensive onboarding and health requirements.
