Description

Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Neuro Unit

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Medical Surgical Neuro
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:7, utilizing team nursing
  • Facility Type: Large hospital, Level 1 Trauma center
  • Must live at least 100 miles from the facility

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years Medical-Surgical experience
  • Minimum 2 years recent travel experience in Medical-Surgical (3+ years recent experience required if first-time traveler)
  • Experience in large hospital and Level 1 trauma settings preferred

Licensure

  • Tennessee RN license or Compact RN license required at time of application submission

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
  • NIH Stroke Certification – required and must be renewed annually (except for pediatric hospital assignments)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if positive, clear chest X-ray within 2 years plus annual TB questionnaire
  • Proof of immunizations or positive antibody titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B: proof of 3-shot series, positive titer, or signed declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start date

Background and Screening

  • Background check within 60 days of start including statewide, county, federal, and education verification (no international searches)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
  • Sex offender search required separately
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search required (TN facilities only)
  • Two recent professional references required

Competencies and Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 1 year and updated annually
  • Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) within 1 year and updated annually

Additional Requirements

  • Return to Offer (RTO) must be submitted at time of application; late submissions will not be accepted
  • Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines (passport-style, no hats, no glasses glare, taken within last 6 months)
  • Must sign confidentiality acknowledgment prior to start
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidery allowed
  • Must complete facility-specific questionnaires and submission packets as required
  • Fit test for N-95 masks (3M 1860 or 1870+) within 1 year, passing required before start

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Minimum 3 years of total travel nursing experience
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Notes

  • Candidates may only submit to one job ID per facility
  • Prior travel experience is required (minimum 2 years recent travel experience in Medical-Surgical)
  • No exceptions for mask brands; facial hair must be shaved for fit test if needed
  • Flu exemption requests require documentation and may delay start date
