Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse

Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Total hours per week: 36
  • Work every other weekend
  • Ability to float to other facilities within the system
  • Circulate C-sections required
  • Postpartum care experience required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in California
  • Labor and Delivery experience totaling at least 3 years, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment
  • Certifications:
    • ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
    • BLS issued by the American Heart Association
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
    • AWHONN Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Postpartum nursing experience

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or government-issued photo ID matching professional license
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year criminal history (including specific counties)
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
    • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
  • Primary source verification of California RN license within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved masks required; annual update)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
    • Two negative TB tests (PPD, QuantiFERON, or Tspot) with specific timing requirements
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required
    • Hepatitis B: titer, series, or declination (declination must be signed within 1 year)
    • Varicella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required (history of disease not accepted)
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
  • Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption required as per facility policy

Competency & Training Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher within 1 year of start
  • Unit-specific competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher within 12 months of start
  • Core Parts I, II, and III training with passing score of 80% or higher, completed within 1 year prior to start and updated annually
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry exam on first day of orientation (3 attempts allowed) for applicable units
  • UCSF Learning Management System modules must be completed before Day 1 for Tuesday starts (exceptions apply)

Additional Requirements

  • Two supervisory references required, preferably from the most recent employment (charge nurses acceptable)
  • Current and updated resume including last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30 days or more must be explained
  • Unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually
  • Completion of facility-specific documents including:
    • COVID-19 preparedness and questionnaire
    • Parking and uniform information
    • Cyber security awareness training and quiz (annual)
    • HIPAA training and quizzes as applicable
    • Emergency contact information
  • Compliance with facility’s COVID-19 religious or medical exemption process if applicable

Notes

  • Candidates must submit Return to Offer (RTO) documents at time of offer; late submissions will not be considered
  • Physical exam and fit mask test results must be submitted timely to meet start date requirements
  • Onsite fit testing available as a last resort with prior approval
  • Candidates must be prepared for pass/fail testing on medication and telemetry during orientation
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-acuity labor and delivery environment with flexibility to float to other units

This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with travel experience seeking a 14-week contract in a major California metropolitan area.
