Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical / Telemetry Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location
- Memphis, Tennessee
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Night shift
- 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (48 hours/week)
- Shift hours: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
Unit & Patient Ratio
- Medical Surgical / Telemetry unit
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 7 patients (team nursing model)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years recent Registered Nurse experience (strict requirement for first-time travelers)
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Large hospital experience required
- Prior travel experience required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract)
- Locals within 100-mile radius not accepted (strict rule)
Licensure
- Current, active Tennessee RN license or multistate license compliant with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
- Pending licenses are not accepted
Scheduling Notes
- Weekend shifts required on a rotating basis
- On-call as needed
- No block scheduling except possible weekend block (must discuss during interview)
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC only
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS) – required annually (except pediatric hospital)
Note: PALS and other pediatric certifications are not required for this position.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Background check within 60 days of start, including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
- Sex offender search required separately
- Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search required
- Two recent professional references required
- Skills checklist and internal evaluations required annually or after one year with agency
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray within 2 years plus annual TB questionnaire
- Proof of immunizations or positive antibody titers for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start
- Fit test for 3M N-95 masks within 1 year (must pass without limitations)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge: recent (within 6 months), passport-style, no hats or glasses with glare, neutral expression
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidery allowed
- Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed prior to start
- EPIC questionnaire required for RNs (may test out of EPIC training if experienced)
- Onsite fit test and questionnaire must be completed prior to start date
Additional Notes
- No acceptance of candidates with pending compliance items at start
- All requests for time off (RTO) must be submitted with application; late submissions will not be approved
- Candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced, Level I Trauma Center environment
This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical / Telemetry RNs with trauma and large hospital experience who have prior travel assignments and are seeking a night shift travel contract in Tennessee.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Tennessee
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical / Telemetry nursing experience
- Medical Surgical / Telemetry experience within the last year
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- Trauma experience
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
