Registered Nurse (RN) - Float (Nights)
Location: Waterloo, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Float nurse assigned based on unit needs across Med Surg, Behavioral Health (BH), Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and some post-procedural areas.
- Night shift position.
- Patient ratio approximately 1:6 in a 130-bed facility.
- Telemetry duties including reading EKG/ECG rhythm strips and dysrhythmia interpretation required.
- Experience with drips: heparin, insulin, lasix, amiodarone, diltiazem, digoxin.
- EMR system used: EPIC.
- Orientation required (16 hours).
- Must work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless unit is closed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Iowa
- Minimum 2 years of float nursing experience, including float experience within the last year
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
- Stepdown experience
- Proficiency with Epic EMR system
Preferred Qualifications
- De-escalation certificate (SAMA, MAB, MOAB, CPI) – can be obtained during onboarding.
- NIH Stroke Scale certificate – can be obtained during onboarding.
- Professional references or performance evaluations within the last 24 months.
Additional Information
- First-time travelers accepted with at least 2 years of nursing experience; hospital/medical center experience prioritized.
- Must be willing and able to float across multiple units as needed.
- Overtime and holiday pay multipliers apply (details not included here).
- Call back and on-call pay available (details not included here).
- Employee separation policy restricts certain past employees from working travel assignments in this market.
- Candidates will be contacted via phone/text from a 405 area code for interviews.
Work Environment & Expectations
- 36-40 hours per week standard; overtime billable after 40 hours.
- Telemetry includes monitoring and managing drips and rhythm assessments.
- Must pass Basic Dysrhythmia Assessment with a minimum score of 80% during onboarding.
